Behind The Brand
Before starting ESSEN, I had various jobs in the fashion and creative industries. The longer I worked in the industry, the more I understood how it was missing the mark and needed to redirect itself to be more responsible and less compromising in its products and processes. Despite working in footwear at the time, I could not find good quality, timeless shoes that were comfortable and ethically made - this was my motivation to make my own and in 2016 ESSEN was born.
WHAT IS YOU DESIGN PHILOSOPHY?
I aspire to simplify women’s lives by editing out closet excess and helping you consider pieces that will play to your personal style. That’s where the name originally comes from – essentials. In a world of hyper-convenience and overconsumption, my goal is to encourage people to buy less, choose better and wear longer - it’s what I like to call ‘the conscious consumption agenda.’
Where does your inspiration come from?
Daily life. Mostly through travel and my friends. I'm always inspired by the people in my life and their way of thinking, seeing and living. Busy lifestyles call for practical yet stylish pieces and especially now, comfort is luxury.
DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE
Effortless essentials, with a touch of femininity. I like a simple, sophisticated and understated look and invest in timeless considered pieces that I’ll be wearing for the next 20 years. I want clothes that I can grow old with, that tell a story and will last for decades, so I can pass them on to my grandchildren.
