It wasn’t until we got lost in the hardware details of The Modern Moccasin that we realised jewellery might be ESSEN’s next progression. In keeping with our philosophy of doing more with less, we set about our journey. 18 months in the making, it’s become a testament to our design process and the time it takes to perfect the smallest of details in a supply chain that’s sustainable, ethical and responsible. The result is a carefully curated collection that limits the constant need for newness with versatile pieces of exceptional quality.

Our jewellery is crafted by skilled artisans from recycled precious metals – reducing the use of raw materials in the process. Comprising of four handcrafted designs: The Disc, The Drop, The Huggie and The Hoop, each piece is available in locally sourced, recycled 925 sterling silver, 2.5-micron gold plated & PVD finishes. 

THE MATERIALS WE USE

Ever committed to refining our processes to become the most responsible brand we can be, we released the second drop of our bestselling styles in a new, base metal, brass. Gilded in recycled sterling silver, 18ct and 14ct gold, this new composition effortlessly speaks to considered design principles and modern luxury.

Our original releases had a sterling silver base composition and each design’s intricate nature required multiple production rounds; a process we have since deemed unsustainable and in conflict with ESSEN’s core values.

It’s in this spirit that we, together with our makers, decided to shift to base material of brass; a solution we feel stays true to our pillars of durability and longevity while remaining accessible.

WHY ESSEN CHOOSES PVD AND 2.5-MICRON GOLD PLATED FINISHES

Our earrings use a unique combination of a brass base and are finished with a range of PVD techniques and 2.5-micron gold plating. While more accessible in price, PVD plating is highly precise in its gold hues and is only suited to certain designs. Gold-plated finishes using 2.5-microns are 2.5x as thick as a standard gold plating meaning the likelihood of needing to re-plate your pieces is low. It also offers the timeless gold look at a more affordable price.

Building on the made-to-last brass base, each design will also be available with recycled 925 sterling silver plating.
